REAL WORLD Essential Questions: Why would it be necessary to be able to rhetorically analyze text and speeches for the author's use of rhetorical devices in determining author's purpose? Why would it be necessary to be able to use rhetorical devices effectively when you are the author/speaker?

Objectives:

  • Content Objective: In my study of reading strategies and rhetorical devices, I will be able to rhetorically analyze a text.

  • Language Objective: I will show what I have learned by writing responses to reading.

Focus:

  • Rhetorical Analysis: Persuasive Appeals (Ethos. Pathos, Logos) & Annotating a text for rhetorical devices and meaning

Handouts:

  2. "The Declaration of Independence"

  3. "Annotation Guide: 'The Declaration of Independence"

  4. SOAPSTone

Activities:

  1. Mini Lesson/Review: Ethos, Pathos, Logos

  2. Watch/Read "The Declaration of Independence"

  3. Annotate "The Declaration of Independence" via Canvas Videos

  4. Begin "Annotation Guide: 'The Declaration of Independence"

  5. Picture Day

Homework:
