REAL WORLD Essential Questions: Why would it be necessary to be able to rhetorically analyze text and speeches for the author's use of rhetorical devices in determining author's purpose? Why would it be necessary to be able to use rhetorical devices effectively when you are the author/speaker?

Objectives:

  • Content Objective: In my study of reading strategies and rhetorical devices, I will be able to rhetorically analyze a text.

  • Language Objective: I will show what I have learned by writing responses to reading.

Focus:

  • Rhetorical Triangle Analysis: Persuasive Appeals (Ethos. Pathos, Logos) & Annotating a text for rhetorical devices and meaning

Activities:

  1. SOAPSTone Notes for "The Declaration of Independence"

  2. Listen to: from the musical Hamilton, "You'll Be Back" by King George

  3. Review and turn in "Annotation Guide: 'The Declaration of Independence"

  4. Complete the annotation of "The Declaration of Independence" via Canvas Videos

  5. Practice Quiz: "The Declaration of Independence" MC for SAT

  6. Begin Rhetorical Triangle Analysis for "The Declaration of Independence"
