Essential Questions: How do authors use their own experiences to develop themes as comments on the human condition? How do literary devices help to communicate these themes?

Objectives:

• Content Objective: In my study of reading strategies and literary devices, I will be able to analyze a novel for the author's use of literary devices to develop theme.

• Language Objective: I will show what I have learned by writing literary responses to reading.

• 2nd 9 Weeks Calendar and Gatsby Reading Schedule

• Literary & Rhetorical Devices Reading Journal (will be double quiz grade) MUST do 3-4 per chapter!

Activities:

1. Brief Discussion: Literary Devices

2. Read Chapter 1 and fill in Journal (3-4 entries)

Homework:

Read Chapter 2 and fill in Journal (at least 3-4)
