Essential Questions: How do authors use their own experiences to develop assertions/themes as comments on the human condition? How do rhetorical/literary devices help to communicate these themes?

Objectives:

  • Content Objective: In my study of reading strategies and rhetorical/literary devices, I will be able to analyze reading passages for the author's use of rhetorical/literary devices to develop theme.

  • Language Objective: I will show what I have learned by writing rhetorical/literary responses to reading.

Focus:

  • Rhetorical/Literary Devices

  • Schaffer Model Paragraphing for Essay REVIEW

  • Short Answer Methods REVIEW

Handouts:

  • District Benchmark Assessment

Activities:

  1. You will receive back your Semester Exam/District Assessment, then you will work in house groups to determine correct answers and make necessary changes.

  2. Review short Answer and Essay prompts.

Homework:

Complete any PRE-work you would like to do to prepare for the Short Answer & Essay portions of exam that you will have NEXT CLASS PERIOD.
